11th July

We're on the move today, untied and left Clarence Dock in Leeds at 8.30 a.m.
Out on to the Aire and Calder Navigation and into Leeds dock. It's a fine sunny, warm day, the locks are easy to use, as they are each electrically operated, either by a lock keeper or ourselves.
The river is wide and deep, to start with the banks are overgrown and industrial, after a while it changed to a more natural and managed appearance. A lot of the area around the water is a nature reserve. The locks are huge, but as the commercial boats that use the locks can be up to 600 tons, it's no wonder.
We stopped at Castleford for lunch and moved on to Ferrybridge for the night.
15 miles, 11 locks
