The day started well, we were moored between the 11th and 12th lock of the Audlum locks and adjacent to a field that Purdey & Darcey loved, as they could chase each other at speed round and round in circles. I eventually got them back on the boat, it was no problem to get them to go to their beds, so that we could go and look around Audlum and shop.
On our return, it was decided that I ought to use the waders, that I had bought yesterday for £15 at Lidl, and see what was wrong with the bow thruster that had got a bit of a glonk when it's used. So in the water I went and investigated, first I tried the starboard side and couldn't find a problem. Then I tried the port side and found that one of the propellers had come off, I managed to get it thro the grill and out. That can now wait until another time, when the boat can be lifted out.
Then we set of to finish the final 4 Audlum locks at 10.30 am. It started to rain at the second lock, but we were warned and had put our wet weather kit on before we started. We stopped at Hack Green for lunch. After lunch it had stopped raining and we proceeded through the 2 Hack Green locks and on to Nantwich. We passed Sanity Again in Nantwich and were greeted by Bruce and Sheila as we passed, clever though, they had moored at the end of the moorings, so that there wasn't any room for two other boats, so we pressed on to the junction with the Llangollen Canal and finally moored up at 3.30 p.m.
8 miles, 6 locks, 5 hours.
On this day in 1981 President Reagan was shot and wounded?
