Last night as we were ready to go to bed, we noticed that Darcey had pulled the second staple out of her wound and it had started bleeding again. We put a dressing on it and put her coat on her, to stop her getting at the wound over night.
This morning I phoned the vet in Harborough, explaining that we were in Foxton and it would take us two hours to get to them, they told me to just turn up and they would see her then.
We left our mooring near the foot swing bridge at 9 am., moving at an urgent pace, slowing down as we passed moored boats, road swing bridge moved easily, it took us about one hour twenty minuets. Fortunately all the moorings in Harborough were free, so we pulled in and moored up at the basin end.
I then took Darcey to the car and then to the vets.
They saw to her as soon as we arrived, I sat in the reception, after fifteen minutes the vet called me in. She now had four staples holding the wound together, had another dose of anti biotic and a pain killer, I was given some pain killer to give to her each morning. With instructions that she must not be let off her lead to run, until the staples are taken out in ten days time, nor allowed to nibble or lick the wound and she can't have a dressing, or her coat on, to prevent her doing that. I explained that I didn't think that would work, she gave me a lamp shade device to put on her head to make sure she couldn't. Off we went back to the car and the boat.
Lunch with at least one of us watching Darcey all the time.
After lunch I went into Market Harborough, to shop for various items I needed.

hi john
Sorry to hear about Darcy's troubles. hope that she is better soon. We know what is like when a dog cuts its side open we had it with a friends dog when we were on the Thames.
We are home at the moment as Tucker has just been castrated so we have the same problem trying to stop him lickng his wound. Not easy.
Best wishes
