21st July

Getting ready for the off didn't take long, we were off shortly after 9 a.m.
A lot of hooting, tooting and waving as we passed N.B. October House, who were staying on in York untill after the weekend.
A trip of 5.5 miles to Naburn lock, leaving York on a noticably warm morning, under the various bridges and out into the rural river.
Graham wanted to fill with diesel, pulling into a marina that we had noted on our way up last week, we continued on to the locks. We arrived there just after 10.30 and pulled onto the water point and filled with water, Autumn Years pulled in behind us within a few minutes, apparently the marina with the diesel had had a power cut.
Other boats were pulling up to get ready for going down the lock. At 12 noon the lock gates were opened and six narrowboats filled the lock, on the dot of 12.30 one of the gates were opened, the other was faulty and remained closed. Fortunately the opened gate was just in front of both of our boats. We got out first and pushed on fast, at this point there wasn't any noticeable flow in the river.
However it was a lot higher than when we came up last week, after about 6 miles of the 14.5 miles we would travel to Selby, we were being overtaken by two white cruisers who were going past Selby to Goole, the river then started to flow down stream building up speed until we were traveling at 8mph. according to the satnav. We still had to watch out for all the floating rubish that we had to dodge.
We arrived at Selby Lock just before 3.00, a bit of excitement getting in the lock but we made it.
Moored up in Selby and did some (wait for it) shopping!!
