28th June

We left our mooring at 8.30 a.m.
The views over the valley were clearer than yesterday. It was cooler today, but the sun was still shinning.
We both took on water at Rose Grove before bridge 126A, we then traveled into Burnley passing by old mills, tall chimneys and old collieries, some of the mills, are or have been restored, as modern accommodation.
The Burnley Embankment is 3/4 of a mile long and carries the navigation across part of the town.
We arrived at the Barrowford Locks at 1 p.m. a total of seven locks, rising 69' 3". We were fortunate to have the bottom lock empty and open for us to sail into, managed the others rapidly and without incident. At the side of the locks is a reservoir that collects the surplus water from the summit level for feeding into the canal when required, it looked very low.
As it was early afternoon we continued on to the Foulridge Tunnel, entrance to this tunnel is controlled by traffic lights, half an hour each way. When we arrived it was on green, so we sailed through, and moored up at the wharf just out side. We are now 483 feet above sea level.
13 miles 7 locks.
