9th August

We set off from our moorings on the pontoons at Newark just before 9.am.
Arrived at Town lock before the lock keeper was on duty, Carolann volunteered to be lock keeper and worked the lock.

On we went, shortly after we had left the lock, we could hear the drive belt on the domestic alternator falling to bits, we cruised on a little while, when it was obvious that it wasn't charging, no panic we carried on, until I could replace the belt at a safe mooring. With blue skies and a following wind, we were moving fast with only passing rowers to consider.

We arrived at Hazelford lock were the lock keeper was surprised to see us, as obviously he had not been informed of our presence by the Town Lock keeper. No problem and he would inform Gunthorpe lock keeper of our plans to go there. We pulled in after the lock on the moorings and I replaced the drive belt  and we all had coffee and set off to Gunthorpe.

After Gunthorpe lock we moved up river a bit and moored on the pontoons outside the Unicorn pub.

Drinks on the pontoon and a rest from the journey, in the evening we sampled the food and drink in the Unicorn.
