16th June

A cold overcast start to the day.
I started to sand and prepare the galley work surface that was damaged, by the glasses falling out of the cupboard, when the boat tipped over in the lock (see blog 13/5/11). I then treated it with the special oil for kitchen work surfaces, it will need more coats later.
The sun has come out and it's hot.
Jo is baking cakes, so I decided to polish the boat. Part way through it started raining, We had lunch.
The rain stopped, I finished all the polishing.
We all went for a walk, to see the big cruise ship, that had moored up this mourning on the dock side. As we went past the Albert dock we past the three masted old ship, that's moored up there and it was open for viewing, we had been watching all week for this opportunity to go on board.
We asked the man at the top of the gangway if we could have a look? Yes he said bring the dogs as well, on we went, he showed us around the deck and down in the cabins. It had been rescued from a total wreck and restored. There is a lot still to do, but it is the only three masted ship of this size and age, in existence. The chap that was showing us around was living with his wife on board, taking care of the ship, and showing interested people around.
We then moved on to see the big cruise ship, it was the Vision of the Seas (79,000 tonne), it was here for the day and was leaving at 8 p.m. A lot of the passengers were returning to the ship, as we approached. It had started from Oslo and had called at Le Harve, Cherbourge & Dublin before cumming here.
On this day in 1991 Boris Yeltsin was elected as President of Russia
